Splendour In The Grass Nixes New Site - For Now
Posted: February 27, 2008
BYRON SHIRE, Australia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- Organizers for the popular Aussie Splendour In The Grass festival have scrapped plans to hold a new event at a site in the North Byron Shire Parklands this year after running into apparently insurmountable challenges.

In an announcement last week, festival organizers claimed that due to time constraints, that they would be unable to amend their Development Application, the Byron Shire News reported.

"Despite the exhaustive work that has gone into preparing such an extensive DA, involving independent assessments, consultation with State Government agencies, the community and Byron Shire Council staff, we still have some more work to do which we will not be able to complete in time for this year's event to go ahead at the parklands site," Splendour spokesperson Jessica Ducrou said "Our objective has always been to hold the very best festival that we can and to be sensitive and consider the issues that have been raised. Therefore we have made the decision to continue further work on the DA and submit for a trial event in 2009."

The event's organizers gave every indication that they intend to move forward with the festival next year at the old site and will continue to plan for a Byron Shire event for the future. - CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
