CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- While Coran Capshaw has made a solid name for himself in the industry through his successful Red Light Management he has been turning his attention to other aspects of the live music industry of late.
Capshaw, who got his start on the road with the Grateful Dead, has earned his reputation with a solid management roster which includes the Dave Matthews Band, Trey Anastasio and others. He also co-founded ATO records and served as the CEO of MusicToday before the firm was sold to music giant Live Nation.
One of Capshaw's recent ventures has been the Starr Hill Brewery, a small microbrew outfit that he runs with a partner. The brewery recently announced a distribution deal with Anheuser-Busch that should serve to expand their customer base into a national market. What's more is that Capshaw has used the brewery as a launching pad for his expansion into concert promoting under the banner of Star Hill Presents.
The firm is already making a name for itself as one of the top regional promoters in the market, booking more than 200 shows in the region in venues ranging from clubs to major arena events. They also book a choice selection of the top venues in Charlottesville, Virginia, including the The Satellite Ballroom, the Charlottesville Pavilion and the The Jefferson Theater.
While the Satellite is slated to be closed this May, as their lease with the landlord is expired with no hope of renewal, the venue is currently looking for new digs in the Charlottesville environs.
Capshaw is moving beyond the boundaries of Charlotte as well, and as previously reported in CelebrityAccess, Red Light was selected to operate a new 7,000 capacity shed in Roanoke on behalf of the the city.
"I think that the team's experience both in terms of designing facilities and managing the facilities, and intimate knowledge of Virginia's entertainment market was very important," Brian Townsend, assistant city manager for community development told the Roanoke Times.
Intriguingly, Capshaw has been quietly accumulating an impressive collection of festivals that he's investing in, including some of the hottest festivals across the US.
Capshaw teams with Superfly Presents and AC Entertainment in their Tennessee-based Bonnaroo Music Festival, their Las Vegas halloween bash, Vegoose. He is also teaming up with Another Planet Entertainment and Superfly Presents to produce the forthcoming Outside Lands Festival, slated to take place in June outside of San Francisco.
Capshaw has also made inroads with other festivals as well, and is teaming with AEG's Chuck Morris to produce the new Denver-based Mile High Music Festival for its inaugral year.
And its more than just the music industry - Capshaw has an interest in numerous upscale restaurants in Charlottesville, including Blue Light Grill, Enoteca, Mas, Mono Loco, and Ten as well as other real estate holdings around the region. - CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
