Harry Fox Agency And Nielsen Broadcasting Create Top 10 Publishers Chart
Posted: May 15, 2006
(CelebrityAccess MediaWire) --The Harry Fox Agency, Inc. (HFA) and Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems (Nielsen BDS) have teamed up to create the new “Top 10 Publishers” chart ranking the top music publishers in the U.S. as determined by radio airplay. This new chart will debuted in the May 6 issue of Billboard and will appear quarterly.

“We’re so pleased to be working with Nielsen BDS to create this valuable resource for the music industry,” said Gary Churgin, president and CEO of HFA. “This new Top 10 Publishers chart will provide the industry with insight into the top companies by radio market share.”

“This is an idea we have been pursuing for a number of years,” said Rob Sisco, president Nielsen Music, COO Nielsen Entertainment East Coast operations. “We believe understanding publisher market share based upon monitored radio airplay is a very important metric for the recorded music industry. HFA is the perfect partner given their unique ability to provide granular information on publisher rights percentages.”

“Just as the granular data that Nielsen BDS and Nielsen SoundScan began providing us 15 years ago greatly enhanced the accuracy of Billboard’s radio and sales charts, the specificity of data from the teaming of BDS and Harry Fox Agency sharpens our view of music’s hottest publishers,” says Geoff Mayfield, director of charts and senior analyst for Billboard Information Group. “We welcome the advent of the Top 10 Publishers list.” --Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen
