Kenny Weissberg
Weissberg Leaving Humphrey’s Concerts
Posted: June 23, 2006
SAN DIEGO, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay has announced the departure of veteran producer and talent buyer Kenny Weissberg, who has spent 23 years at the company.

Weissberg will step down at the end of the 2006 season to pursue various creative projects. These will include writing a book about his experience in the concert business, working as a music industry consultant, and continuing to host his weekly radio show, “Music Without Boundaries” on 91X, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Weissberg, a former Colorado rock music critic and band leader, helped to increase the company’s Shelter Island venue capacity from 650 to 1,380, and expanded its musical offerings from 15 in 1983 to an average of 75 annually for the past decade.

“I never intended to be a concert promoter,” he told the paper. “To take this job I had to break up my band in Colorado, and it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever done. The more I wanted to get back to the band, the more successful Humphrey’s became.”

Under Weissberg’s creative guidance, Humphrey’s grew from a small local concert series to a widely acclaimed venue that draws performers and fans from around the world. The summer concert series was profitable every year he booked it and showcased legendary artistst such as Miles Davis, Emmylou Harris, Diana Krall, and Ray Charles, who performed 37 shows at Humphrey’s during Weissberg’s tenure. --by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
