Pixies Give New Meaning To Live Music
Posted: November 15, 2009 LOS ANGELES (AP) - With their sold-out European Doolittle Tour complete and a similar standing-room-only U.S. leg under way (which features a complete performance of their 1989 classic, “Doolittle,” each night), the Pixies are giving fans a unique opportunity to take the night’s performance home with them.Starting on the first night of the group’s four-performance stand in New York City (Nov. 23), fans can purchase a CD of that night’s show about 10 minutes after the Pixies walk offstage. And for those attending shows before the 23rd, no need to fret - you can purchase recordings of earlier 2009 U.S. tour stops via the Web site doolittlelive.com. Fans attending the Boston-bred Pixies’ homecoming shows Nov. 27 and 28 at Citi Wang Theatre will have the same opportunity.

The company Abbey Road Live is recording every Pixies show from the California kickoff last week through the Dec. 1 conclusion of the tour in Washington, D.C. The shows will be offered as limited-edition, high-quality CD sets - each CD set having two discs in it, and each CD set being individually numbered. The two-CD sets will sell for $25 each, and will be mixed and mastered every night - resulting in full, multitrack mixes, not board mixes. The CDs are limited-edition - only 1,000 will be made per night for each show. Also being offered are commemorative USB wristbands for $15. With each wristband, fans will get four songs recorded from the European leg of the tour, as well as five Pixies videos as bonus content. And if you buy the USB, you also get a $5 discount code - which will result in a download costing $10 (rather than its normal $15 price). Also near completion is an exclusive Pixies iPhone app, which is being developed by BlueHaze for Abbey Road Live and the Pixies, and will feature plenty of social media features. For instance, all of the band’s official Twitter, MySpace and Facebook blogs will come through the app. Additionally, you can click on a tab to see the full Pixies catalog, and by hitting a button, will be led to iTunes. Another link will also lead fans to an area where you can prepurchase any of the live products being sold, while another link allows fans to have the ability to take pictures and share them with each other, and interact at shows. “It’s a great pleasure to be working with the Pixies once again,” said Zach Bair, head of Abbey Road Live in the Americas (formerly CEO of DiscLive, the company that recorded the Pixies’ shows during their successful 2004 U.S. tour, and CEO of Immediatek Inc., parent company of DiscLive). “We’re excited to be able to offer these limited-edition products so that the Pixies’ fans can take something home that’s really memorable and special.” |
