Bob Seger (AP)
Seger To Open New Indiana Arena
Posted: August 23, 2011
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) Evansville's new 11,000-seat downtown arena will have its grand opening this fall with a concert by veteran rocker Bob Seger.

The Nov. 9 concert at the newly named Ford Center will be the opening stop on the second leg of Seger's 2011 North American tour. VenuWorks Evansville director Scott Schoenike tells the Evansville Courier & Press that the prospect of opening the $127 million arena helped attract Seger.

Mayor Jonathan Weinzapfel (WYN'-zap-fuhl) says he's thrilled to have Seger be the first performer in the arena, which will have its official opening ceremony two days later.

The concert won't be the arena's first event. That will be a University of Evansville men's basketball exhibition game against DePauw on Oct. 29.
