The Young Americans Director Milt Anderson Passes

LANSING, MI (CelebrityAccess) -- Milton C. Anderson, a former television music producer and the founder of the touring show choir The Young Americans, died on July 4th. He was 90.

According to an obituary, Anderson passed away with his family at his side near his home in northern Michigan. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Mr. Anderson worked as a musical director at CBS television on shows including Rawhide and The Twilight Zone but went on to found The Young Americans in 1962. He directed the group in its early years and the chorus appeared in more than 27 musical numbers and multiple television specials on CBS, NBC, and ABC.

During that time Mr. Anderson worked with some of the best-known entertainers of the period including Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Johnny Mathis, and Julie Andrews.

In the mid-1990's, Mr. Anderson turned the focus of The Young Americans organization to music education and advocacy and co-created The Young Americans Music Outreach program that which continues to tour.

Anderson is survived by his wife Susan, his five children Susan, Steve, Missy, Dawn, Tina, and 15 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on July 14th at 11 am at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, Michigan. An additional memorial service will also be held in Southern California this fall, details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the Anderson family has asked that family and friends donate to The Young Americans Scholarship Fund.
