Lebanon Cancels Summer Festivals Over Safety Concerns
Posted: July 6, 2007
BEIRUT, Lebanon (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- Lebanon has cancelled the Beitedeen and Baalbek music festivals for a second straight year, fearing the threat of attacks from Israel and the continuing violence from alleged Hariri-linked Al-Qaeda militants.

Organizers made the announcement just after 10,000 fans flocked to an Enrique Iglesias concert in Damascus, the first performance by a western artist in Syria in 30 years.

International pop superstar Shakira was set to headline at Beitedeen. The Lebanese music festivals are the most renowned in the Arab world – many were even staged during parts of the country’s recent Civil War. --by CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
