WASHINGTON, DC (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- Credit goes to the New York Times, not the Seattle Times, for its self-inspection, undertaken during a test-run of the truly wonderful WikiScanner, which found CIA employees whiling the day with changes to Wikipedia, or the unknown employee at The Washington Post who made the publisher of the freebie Washington Examiner, Philip Anschutz, ever so briefly into "Charles Manson." Chalk it up to summer boredom and the invention of WikiScanner that we now learn of how much idle time people have and get a view of what they're like when they think no one is looking.

The Phil Anschutz/Charles Manson change reportedly came from a computer at the venerable Washington Post. In September 2006, someone working from a Washington Post computer changed the Wikipedia entry for the Washington Examiner. Under the slot for owner of this young local publication, the person inserted the following change: —Delete Philip Anschutz —Insert Charles Manson The entry was later changed back to the correct owner, Anschutz. This killer information comes from WikiScanner, the new and now-swamped web site that tracks changes to Wikipedia by IP address. The Manson riff is the most interesting Post-derived change that we found in a quick inventory of the list. But we’ll keep on mining it. |
