YouLicense Streamlines Music Content Acquisiton Process
Posted: September 6, 2007
NEW YORK (Hypebot) -- The big boys have agents and companies like VerveLife to shop deals in film, TV and corporate America. But how can the little guys play the same game?

YouLicense is one of a handful of launches designed to serve as the middle man between the artist and companies seeking content. In a series of email exchanges with Maor Ezer, co-founder of the Israeli firm we learned about how YouLicense operates.

HypeBot: Tell us about your new site.
Ezer: The idea behind YouLicense is to empower all types of musicians. Unlike traditional record and publishing companies we do not want to start filtering content based on our personal opinions and tastes, that’s why we’ve installed the Spotback recommendation and rating tools. The guys at Spotback.com gave us all the tools to embed the rating widget in to our search engine. If you look at a song page you’ll see several of rating options that inflect on buyers search results.

HypeBot: What is your revenue model?
Ezer: We’re also going to charge a subscription fee in the future that will eventually filter amateur artists. We take 9% commission from each sale, so the artist keeps most of the revenues.

HypeBot: You're not alone in this field. How do you plan to compete?
Ezer: We target small to medium businesses seeking content fast and affordable. The idea is to give production houses, advertising companies, mobile companies and such an alternative to mainstream content. We a have a roster of potential buyers waiting to do business with us. As I said earlier we’re only at a closed beta stage; so no success stories yet.
