Original Founding Del Vikings Member Norman Wright Passes
Posted: April 29, 2010
NEW JERSEY (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- Norman Wright, the last of the original founding members of The Del Vikings, died on Friday evening, April 23, 2010 in New Jersey after a long illness. He was 72 years old. He is survived by his two sons Norman Jr. and Anthony, who both toured and performed with Norman the last 10 plus years.

The Del Vikings were originally formed in 1957 and were known known for such charting hits as: “Come Go With Me”, “Whispering Bells”, “Cool Shake” and “Come Along With Me” among others. The group was notable for being one of the first integrated groups to be successful in the 1950s.

Norman was not only a talented performer, but he knew how to entertain an audience. He had a great sense of humor and he had the ability to take his audience back in time.

What the fans said:

“I went to your concert at Silver Springs, Florida. I thought you were fabulous! Seeing you reminded me of the olden days, when I was a teenager and loved you so much. I wanted to write and tell you how great you still sound. Mr. Wright, your voice is just as beautiful as it was when I was a teenager!”

“I have had the great pleasure of seeing Norman Wright and the Del Vikings over the past couple of years. They are more than an oldies group. They are legends. There is no bigger fan than I am. When you hear their music, it takes us back to a time when we all had less worries, much more love and compassion. I had the great pleasure of meeting Norman Wright after the concert. He took the time to talk to me; a complete gentleman. Keep singing Norman. The pleasure you bring to me and people like me will never end.”

“You were my favorite group at the Moondog Coronation Ball. It was especially pleasing to see the old fashioned sense of style displayed by the young members of the group. I guess dad brought them along well. Thanks for the great show!” - CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
