Silverchair On Hiatus
Posted: May 26, 2011
SYDNEY, Australia (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) -- After almost 20 years, five hit albums and a record-breaking pile of 21 ARIA awards, Australian rockers Silverchair have announced that they are taking an "indefinite hibernation".

The band, composed of Daniel Johns, Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou deny that they are actually splitting up, but have said they don't intend to make music together any time soon.

"It's been pretty quiet there for a while and it's been clear for a bit longer that they were moving apart," Bernard Zuel, the music writer for the Sydney Morning Herald said. "Daniel Johns, his musical directions weren't necessarily the kind of things that the other two were on board with."

The trio has been playing since they were 12, first gaining national recognition in Australia when one of their tracks won a demo competition.

In a statement, the band said that the trio will continue to work on their own "more inspiring" music, as an individual effort, one is left to presume. - CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
