First Lawsuits Land In Indiana State Fair Tragedy
Posted: August 19, 2011
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) An Indiana law firm has filed two lawsuits on behalf of people injured when a strong wind gust sent metal scaffolding tumbling into a crowd at the Indiana State Fair.

More lawsuits are expected as six people have died from injuries suffered in the stage collapse and roughly four dozen were injured. The accident happened Saturday while the crowd was waiting for the country act Sugarland to perform.

One lawsuit filed Friday was on behalf of the family of 42-year-old Tammy Vandam, a homemaker and former disc jockey who died when the stage collapsed. The other was for 49-year-old Beth Urschel, who was injured.

Both women were from Wanatah.
