Las Vegas Sands Teams Up With Oak View For Japanese Arena Pitch
Posted: October 5, 2017
TOKYO *CelebrityAccess) -- Casino and resorts operator Las Vegas Sands used some high profile entertainment figures as a part of their charm offensive to woo Japan as the country prepares to issue licenses for casinos.

According to the New York Times, Las Vegas Sands says that its Japanese plans include high-end sports and concert venues that will lure tourists to the Island nation.

To bolster their efforts, Sands recruited sports figures such as soccer legend David Beckham to take part in a presentation at a new conference in Tokyo.

Also appearing at the conference was veteran music manager Irving Azoff, who in turn, summoned Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh to the stage, who said he loved playing in Japan, but felt the country needed updated concert facilities.

Oak View's Tim Leiweke was also on hand, stating that while building new arenas and other resort facilities would cost billions, they would bring in tourists as well as other audiences, the Times reported.

Leiweke expressed hope that Japan would one day have an arena comparable with Madison Square Garden and which would attract major sporting events.

"The NBA needs that kind of facilities to make that kind of trip worth it," he said, according to the Times.
